A serious multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 301 in Brandywine, Maryland, caused major traffic disruptions Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after a collision left three people injured and several lanes blocked.
The crash was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the 16700 block of Crain Highway (U.S. 301), near the Maryland Route 5 junction, according to Prince George’s County Fire/EMS officials. Three patients had to be extricated from the vehicles following the collision.
Two of those injured were transported by medical helicopter in critical condition, while a third person was taken to a hospital with serious but reportedly non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews remained at the scene as they worked to treat the injured and secure the roadway.
The crash also caused substantial traffic problems along US 301. Officials reported that all travel lanes were blocked near the county line, with motorists advised to avoid the affected stretch and expect significant delays.
Separate traffic information from the Washington, D.C., area also reported the southbound section of US 301 between McKendree Road/Cedarville Road and MD-5/Mattawoman Beantown Road blocked because of the crash and police activity.
Initial reports indicate that the collision involved a vehicle that was reportedly fleeing from deputies, although the full circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.
Drivers traveling through Brandywine and surrounding areas should use caution, follow instructions from police and emergency personnel, and consider alternate routes while the investigation and roadway response continue.
