The Alma Center community is mourning the loss of Adam J. Massman, a 17-year-old Lincoln High School senior whose life was tragically cut short after he suffered an injury during a football game.
According to his obituary and school officials, Adam died August 22, 2026, two days after he was injured during Lincoln’s season-opening game against Turtle Lake on Thursday, August 20.
Emergency personnel responded to the field and treated Adam before he was transported to a hospital. He later died from his injuries. The specific nature of the injury and additional medical details have not been publicly disclosed.
Adam was entering his final year at Lincoln High School and was known throughout the school community for his dedication to athletics and his involvement with the Lincoln Hornets.
A quarterback and defensive back, he played an important role on the football team. During the 2025 season, Adam recorded 1,138 total yards, including 858 passing yards and 10 passing touchdowns, according to the information provided.
Football was not his only athletic pursuit. Adam also participated in basketball and baseball, demonstrating the competitive spirit and commitment that made athletics an important part of his high school experience.
For teammates and classmates, his sudden death has been especially difficult. Adam was remembered as a young athlete who competed with determination while embracing the sports and activities that meant so much to him.
Following his death, teammates honored his memory by decorating his school parking space with the initials “LLA,” meaning “Long Live Adam,” alongside his No. 4 jersey number. The tribute has become a visible reminder of the young man whose presence meant so much to the Lincoln community.
Adam also came from a family with strong connections to the Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan School District. His mother, Brianne Massman, works as an elementary school counselor, further reflecting the family’s longstanding connection to the local school community.
His death has left classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches and relatives confronting a loss that has affected the entire community. At 17, Adam was preparing for his final year of high school and the possibilities that awaited him beyond graduation.
Yet those mourning him are also remembering the life he had already built. His athletic accomplishments, friendships and relationships with members of the community remain part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Funeral services are scheduled for August 29 at Lincoln Junior/Senior High School, following visitation on August 28 and August 29. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center.
As the Lincoln community gathers to remember Adam, his No. 4 jersey and the words “Long Live Adam” carry a message shared by teammates and friends: although his life ended far too soon, the memories he created and the impact he made will remain part of the community for years to come.
