Lucille M. Bader, a devoted mother, grandmother, quilter and woman of faith whose life was defined by family, friendship and service to others, died on August 22, 2026, in Sainte Genevieve. She was 93.
Born on February 22, 1933, Lucille spent her life creating a home and community filled with kindness, faith and fellowship. Those closest to her remembered how deeply she valued time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, finding much of her happiness in the simple moments shared with the people she loved.
One of Lucille’s greatest talents was quilting. With patience and care, she created handmade quilts for members of her family and contributed quilts to community fundraisers. The pieces she made were more than practical gifts; they represented the time, affection and generosity she consistently gave to others. Many of her quilts are expected to remain cherished family keepsakes for generations.
Lucille also enjoyed pitch and participated in tournaments with relatives, turning the card game into another opportunity to gather with family and friends. She spent time with friends at the Ste. Genevieve Nutrition Center and enjoyed fishing and cooking. Among the dishes remembered by her family was her baked ham, which became a particular favorite.
Faith remained a central part of Lucille’s life. During her years at the Ste. Genevieve Care Center, she continued to serve others by helping with activities, preparing for Mass, assisting with Communion and joining fellow residents in praying the rosary.
Her commitment to community was also reflected in her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, organizations through which she remained connected to service and fellowship.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus A. Bader, whom she married on June 19, 1951. She was also preceded in death by other relatives and loved ones.
She leaves behind six children, grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as her sister and other members of her extended family. For them, her death marks the loss of a beloved family matriarch whose presence had been woven into generations of family memories.
Visitation is scheduled for August 29 from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Basler Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church, with burial planned at Valle Spring Cemetery.
Lucille Bader’s life was not defined by grand gestures but by the countless small acts of love and service she offered throughout her 93 years. Through quilts made by hand, meals prepared with care, games shared with relatives, prayers offered in faith and time spent with those she loved, she created a legacy that will continue through the generations.
For her family and community, Lucille will be remembered as a woman whose life was stitched together with love, strengthened by faith and preserved in the memories of all those fortunate enough to know her.
