A deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 78 in Newark, New Jersey, left one person dead and several others critically injured Tuesday morning, August 25, 2026, after a vehicle became lodged beneath a tractor-trailer.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the eastbound lanes of I-78 near Exit 56 shortly before 9:30 a.m. following reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles. Preliminary information from the scene indicated that one vehicle became pinned underneath a tractor-trailer carrying scrap tires, while another vehicle overturned.
